ABOUT THE WORK
Architecture is always thought about out of its own scale. What language is there between an architectural model and its eventual built environment? Fluid bearing 1 (FB12019) is a usable theory for how furniture can function within this division. Part of this work is derived from this architectural shortcoming, a difficulty to establish real space before there is a built structure. Part of this work is derived from research into river erosion and storm surges moving large stones through a landscape. Can broad use of an architectural environment be derived from an ecosystemic approach? Then given this theory, use and living follow closer to a site specific ecology. Designing becomes a function of form following ecology. FB12019 is shaped and finished by slicing wood using unique hand forged japanese tools. This technique is known as kanna finish.
