TITLE OF WORK

On-Edge Chandelier by Marco Piscitelli

ABOUT THE WORK

Using design methods of the readymade, On-Edge Chandelier references two of the many ubiquitous and overlooked elements of our streetscapes: the bollard and the floodlight. These are devices which form spaces, boundaries, and edges—public and private, automobile and pedestrian, free and surveilled. Rather than lighting itself, On-Edge Chandelier relies instead on ambient light around it, reflecting off its fluted hi-vis and metallic surfaces. It concentrates all of its light downward, brightly illuminating people below and, as a byproduct of its incandescent bulbs, creating a warm, spotlit micro-climate on winter nights.
